U’khand getting ready to celebrate world tourism day

In a bid to promote tourism, the Uttarakhand government is planning to develop less known destinations as new avenues for river rafting, skiing, trekking, mountain climbing, bungee jumping and water skiing.

Expediting the initiative, the state tourism department has selected Ramnagar, a small place, as the venue for the world tourism day celebrations on 27 September. It is expected that union tourism minister Chiranjavee would inaugurate the function.

Another destination called Shivpuri, the rafting capital of India, is geared-up to welcome adventure-seeking tourists from other states as weather has improved and the meteorological department predicting that the monsoon is almost over.

After re-opening of Kedarnath shrine on 11 September, the re-start of river rafting after three months in the holy city Rishikesh and its neighboring places would revive tourism industry. According to available information, there are more than 350 rafts operating in the Ganga River.

Good news is that the Hemkund Sahib yatra in the Chamoli district is also all set to start from 21 September. According to tourism minister Amrita Rawat, these exercises will help in the image-building of the disaster-hit state and everything will be normal with time management and providing quality service to the guests.
