U’khand CM moots Ganga bypass canal in Rishikesh, Haridwar

He also proposed the idea of building a Ganga bypass canal in Rishikesh and Haridwar. “If the Centre helps, we can achieve 100 per cent results in the clean Ganga mission. The Centre will have to give Rs 10,000 crore for this. Our action plan for cleaning the Ganga and its tributaries in Uttarakhand is ready,” he said.
“We want to build a Ganga bypass canal in Rishikesh and <g data-gr-id="22">Haridwar,</g> so that even treated water is not directly discharged into the river. But we need the Centre’s help in this,” he <g data-gr-id="21">said,</g> while felicitating an ITBP squad, which undertook river rafting expedition under the Swachh Ganga campaign in Rishikesh.
On <g data-gr-id="20">fourth</g> day, the squad reached Rishikesh. The 40-member team, led by Commandant Surendra Khatri, was flagged off by Union Minister Uma Bharati on Gandhi Jayanti at Devprayag.
The team will complete the expedition in 73 days. The expedition will culminate at Gangasagar in West Bengal on December 11 and will pass through five states (Uttarakhand, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal) and 49 cities covering 2, 350 km.
He praised the paramilitary force carrying out massive rescue operations in the state in during the 2013 flash floods and the successful conduct of the high-altitude Nanda Raj Jaat Yatra last year.
