U’khand CM issues rallying call to state Cong workers

With an  eye on next year’s lok sabha elections, Congress CM Vijay Bahuguna has sent a clear signal to senior leaders and party workers that anti-party activities will not be tolerated at any cost, here on Thursday. Leniency in the departmental work will be discouraged and strict action will be taken against concerned officers.

To strengthen the image of the party, the workers are asked to initiate the work at the ground level. To get instant feedback from various workers at all levels, the CM will preside a meeting on 31 May. The other party leaders will also be invited in the meeting.

Internal feud and choice of wrong candidate, all these combined factors led to the poor performance of Congress at the recently held civic polls. As per local media report, the popularity graph of the Congress has come down.

The Congress won the recent assembly elections after defeating arch rival BJP. The defeat of BJP stalwart Major Khanduri was big news then. But fears within the Congress emanted with the defeat of Saket Bahuguna (son of CM Vijay Bahuguna) in the Tehri Lok Sabha by-election.

The senior Congress leader Hira Singh Bisht believes that defeat of Congress in the civic polls doesn’t mean that the people have lost faith in Congress. The civic polls elections are fought on local issues, but in Lok Sabha elections many factors like party status, individual image, general wave etc. decide the fate of the candidates.

Former CM and currently Rajya Sabha MP from Utttarakhand state, Bhagat Singh Koshiyari termed the second tenure of UPA government as total failure. He lamented that the country has not witnessed so much corruption from the last four decades.

Reacting to this comment, senior Congress leader and sports minister Mr Dinesh Aggarwal said that Mr Kohiyari is not counting the achievements of UPA government. Headded that the voices of revolt are being heard from within  the of BJP.  He further added that the people across the country have benefitted from the various schemes and programmes initiated by the  UPA-II government.
