Udhampur terror: 9 LeT cadres named in NIA charge-sheet

Nine Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) cadres were on Thursday named in a charge-sheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in last year's terror attack case in J&K's Udhampur.

Two Pakistani terrorists of the LeT had on August 5 attacked a Boder Security Force (BSF) convoy in Udhampur. The attack resulted in the death of two BSF personnel, while 13 were injured. The case was subsequently transferred to the NIA for investigation.

The charge-sheet has been filed against the accused  –Md Naveed alias Usman, Khursheed Ahmed Bhat alias Khursheed Alam Bhat, Showkat Ahmed Bhat, Shabzar Ahmed Bhat, Fayaz Ahmed Ittoo alias Fayaz Khar, Khursheed Ahmed Ittu, Fayaz Ahmed Ashwar alias Setha, Ashiq Hussain Bhat alias Ubaida and Abu Noman – a release issued by the NIA said.

Of the accused, Noman was killed in retaliatory action by the security forces upon the commencement of the instant terrorist attack, while Ashwar and Ashiq Hussain Bhat are on the run, it said.

"The investigation has not only unearthed the specific conspiracy behind the terrorist attack in Udhampur but also the larger conspiracy of the LeT through which Md Naveed alias Usman and his associates infiltrated and sheltered in Indian territory for committing terrorist acts," the release said.

The charge-sheet has been filed under various provisions of the Ranbir Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Foreigners' Act and the Explosive Act, it said.
