In December 2011, he was also accused in a rape case in south Delhi’s Mehrauli area. However, he was later acquitted in the case but spent seven months in jail for the same.
“Not only that, accused Shiv Kumar Yadav (32) was also involved in several criminal cases that include molestation, robbery and cases under the Arms Act, in the past,” said Shrikant Singh, Superintendent of Police (Mainpuri).
Singh further said Yadav was out on bail for the 2013 rape case, and had gone to Delhi to earn money. “In fact, three different cases are still pending against him in Uttar Pradesh courts. In the year 2003, he had allegedly molested a girl and also physically assaulted her, for that he was booked under sections 354 and 323 of IPC,” added Singh.
He further informed Yadav was also an accused in a robbery case in 2013. In 2003, he was once booked for illegal possession of arms. Meanwhile, Yadav’s associates — Gaurav Thakral and Kamal, who also drove the cab owned by the accused, were also interrogated by the police on Tuesday, said Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner of police (North).
When police tracked the mobile number by which Yadav had called the girl after the incident on December 5 night, it emerged that the number was issued to Gaurav. “We have to see if Gaurav and Kamal knew about Yadav’s intents. In fact, we also need to verify whether they were also involved in crimes in the past,” Verma added. A police team have also been sent to his native place in Mathura to recover the mobile phone used in the crime. He was about to flee to Nepal with his family after the incident, Verma informed.
