Two youths detained on terror charges found clean: Police

On Sunday afternoon tensions grew in Shaheen Bagh, an area near Kalindi Kunj, over the detainment of two men in their twenties by the Delhi police’s special cell.

However, the two youths were cleared after questioning and will be released soon, Delhi police said. ‘We had picked them for questioning during which nothing suspicious was found. The questioning is almost done and we will soon release them,’ Special Commissioner (Special Cell) SN Shrivastava said.

At around 11.30 am, some locals received information about a visit from the Delhi Police Special Cell team in the area, during the early hours of Sunday. The officials, in civil clothes, raided house Number, E-101, in Gali No. 13, Abdul Fazal Enclave and took two men with them.

Information about the detention of two Muslim boys residing in a rented accommodation spread all around the area. Locals were annoyed, as they believe that in the past few years, residents have continuously complained about rude and racist behaviour by the Delhi police. Locals claim that whenever an official want to get a pat on the back for arresting terrorists, they come to Shaheen Bagh and either detain or arrest innocent boys.

When Millennium Post tried to contact senior officials from the special cell, calls went unanswered and no text messages were replied to. However, sources in district police confirmed and said, ‘Following the arrest of four Indian Mujahideen terrorists from Rajasthan, the special cell has detained two persons from south-east Delhi on Sunday morning.’

Tension in the area grew through the day and locals started demonstrating outside Jamia Nagar police station. Around 300 people gathered in the area and blocked the roads and banned entry of vehicles in Kalindi Kunj area. ‘The locals and leaders of the area demanded immediate release of the detained boys. Till their release, they vowed that the demonstrations would continue,’ the official said.

The demonstration took place without any prior intimation and to avert havoc in the area, the police blocked roads going towards Kalindi Kunj. ‘Traffic coming from Sarita Vihar towards Noida via Kalindi Kunj and from Noida to Delhi vis Kalindi Kunj were blocked,’ a senior traffic police official said.

The routes were diverted to Mathura road and commuters willing to visit Noida were forced to visit DND flyover. As a result, long traffic snarls was witnessed on Mathura road, DND flyover, Ashram, Noida sector-16 and Mahamaya flyover.
