Two traffic officials awarded for nabbing accused after heroic chase

Two traffic officials deployed at west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area nabbed two robbers acting promptly on a complaint by a man whose mobile phone and other belongings the accused had robbed in broad daylight on June 11, police said on Friday.

One of the officials also received injuries when one of the robbers attacked him with a surgical blade during the chase. The officials — Constable Rohtash and Constable Girish — were later rewarded by Special Commissioners Deepak Mishra (Law and Order) and Muktesh Chander (Traffic), for the brave act, said a senior police official.

The incident was reported around 10 am on Thursday when the traffic cops noticed a man crying for help near the Punjabi Bagh bus stand.

When the cops approached him, he pointed towards three men apparently fleeing from the spot and running towards the Punjabi Bagh Gurudwara. He told the cops that they had robbed him of his mobile phone and other belongings. The cops immediately started chasing them.

After the almost half kilometer chase, the officials managed to overpower two of the three men. The three of them were identified as Trilok, Bittoo and Disco. Trilok and Bittoo were arrested and Disco is still at large, said a police official. All three of them are residents of Outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri area.
When the two of them were overpowered by the cops, Trilok suddenly pulled out a surgical blade from his pocket and slashed Constable Girish’s forearm. Girish was later treated at Agrasen Hospital and a case was registered at Punjabi Bagh police station.

During interrogation, it emerged that Trilok has a criminal record and was arrested once in 2004 under the Arms Act, the official added.
