Two teenagers were killed and two others seriously injured when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a speeding car in southwest Delhi’s Jafarpur Kalan village here in the wee hours on Tuesday.
Three of the victims were part of a music band while the fourth was the auto rickshaw driver. The errant driver of the car managed to flee the spot and efforts are being made to arrest him.
The deceased have been identified as Sanjay (16) and Anil (18) were killed on the spot while Pradeep, their colleague, suffered injuries on his head and is undergoing treatment at a hospital with the driver.
“The incident took place around 5 am at the Kapashera main road behind the airport when the trio had booked the three-wheeler to take them to R K Puram. As they were waiting for another member of the band to come, a speeding car came from behind and hit the auto from behind.
“The impact was so strong that the three-wheeler tumbled several times before coming to a halt,” said a senior police official.
While the car’s driver fled leaving his vehicle behind, other band members reached the spot and called police.
The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where the two teenagers were declared brought dead.
“We have registered a case under section 304A against the errant driver and efforts are on to nab him after he was identified through the vehicle which has been seized.
“There are chances that he might be drunk when the incident took place,” he said.
