In a yet another case of day-light robbery in the national capital, the police, on Monday arrested two robbers after a long chase and fair exchange of bullets near the Novelty Cinema at Lahori Gate area in north Delhi.
They were part of a five-member gang which was trying to flee after allegedly looting Rs 3.5 lakh at gun-point from a businessman in the nearby market at 3:30 pm. Two members of the gang – Pradeep (22) and Satpal (32) were nabbed after a long chase, however, the other three managed to escape on a motorbike, said a police official.
‘The gang had come on two motorbikes and after the alleged loot, one of the bikes which was supposed to be taken by Pradeep and Satpal failed to start. So, the two of them started running.
Soon an alarm was raised and the beat constables on duty reached the spot’, the officer added.
‘On seeing the constables chasing them, the accused snatched someone else’s bike and started firing at the police officials. The police also opened fire at them. One of the bullets hit the motorbike and they fell off’, said Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North). He further said that no person was injured in the confrontation.
