Two policemen booked for seeking bribe

A Delhi police sub-inspector and a head constable, on Thursday were booked for demanding bribe from a man, after the audio recording of their act was sent to the police’s vigilance helpline.
The helpline was started  by Delhi Police on 6 August against Delhi’s corrupt policemen.

A case has been registered against sub-inpector Gopi Ram, attached with Malviya Nagar police station, and head constable Rajbir Singh by vigilance department for seeking bribe from the complainant.

The complainant, whose name is withheld by police, forwarded the audio recording on Delhi Police vigilance helpline. The audio was recorded by him  on 15 September, 2013. The complainant stated that a dispute arose with one of his woman neighbours over the issue of car parking in Malviya Nagar on 15 September, 2013.

Following which the woman made a call to police. Sub-Inpector Gopi Ram, who had attended the call, threatened the complainant to arrest him in a case of eve-teasing.

A vigilance official said that complainant’s phone was on recording mode and the whole conversation was recorded.‘In their conversation, the sub-inspector was heard demanding Rs 15,000 from the complainant to settle the matter’, the officer said.

‘A total of 10 policemen, from constable to sub-inspector ranks, have been booked in five cases of prevention of corruption act till 21 August.
