Delhi police Special Cell have arrested two men, including an Afghan national, who were in possession of drugs worth Rs.2 crore in the international market.
The accused identified as Jumah Khan (28), an Afghan national, and Arif Ali, a 30-year-old from Rajasthan. They were arrested from Nizamuddin area in south-east Delhi on Tuesday evening.
‘Since the past few months, the Special Cell has been working on different international syndicates involved in drug trafficking from Afghanistan, Pakistan and other Middle East countries, especially Kuwait, which used Delhi as a transit route. Several modules have been busted during this period and we’ve recovered a large cache of contraband. While working on these syndicates, we received information that a consignment of drugs would exchange hands in the Nizamuddin Area,’ said Sanjeev Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (special cell).
Accordingly, a trap was laid near Oberoi Hotel flyover at Lala Lajpat Rai Marg. At about 5 pm Arif was spotted in front of Oberoi Hotel, while meeting another person. As Arif took out the heroin sample from the other person and sniffed it, the Special Cell team swooped in and apprehended the duo. A total of 72 capsules containing heroin and 50 grams of the contraband in a packet were found in their possession. During the course of investigation, it was learnt that he used a novel modus operandi for transporting the contraband. After the carrier received drugs, in the form of capsules from the handler, he swallowed the same and reached India with capsules in his stomach. On reaching Delhi he excreted the capsules through stool and delivered the same to the buyer.
During Khan’s interrogation, it was learnt that his handler Habib, based in Afghanistan, had given him 80 such capsules. He used to swallow the drug-containing capsules in a rubber sheath and would pass them through stool after reaching Delhi. Arif was involved in helping him deliver the consignment to people hailing from Afghanistan. The accused have been booked under the relevant sections of NDPS Act.
