Two of Mewati gang held for damaging PCR vans

Delhi Police Crime Branch on Friday arrested two members of a Mewati gang who were wanted in an assault case on PCR van officials and for damaging two PCR Vans in Ambedkar Nagar area.

The accused have been identified as Mubarik, alias Rajju, (35) and Irfan, alais Bhuriya, (23), both belonging to Haryana.

One Honda city car stolen from the Lajpat Nagar area has been recovered from their possession. In 2015, the in-charge of PCR van Eagle-17 noticed a Tata 407 truck lying suspiciously on the Mehrauli-Badarpur (MB) road.

When he tried to check the vehicle, its driver hit the PCR van and sped away towards Mehrauli.

When the PCR van chased the vehicle, the persons in the truck pelted stones on it and damaged its glass.

To contain the criminals, the PCR van official fired three rounds from his weapon and simultaneously passed on the message to the Control Room about the incident. A second PCR van Kite-58 then located the Tata 407 near the MB Road

shooting range. When they tried to stop the vehicle, their PCR van was also hit by the truck and stones were pelted on it, thereby damaging it.

In self defence, the PCR van officials fired 7 rounds on the vehicle but the driver managed to flee in the truck.

On March 21, police received a tip-off that criminals of Mewat region involved in the case would come near Lado Sarai T-point in a stolen car to commit a crime.

Accordingly, a team was constituted and a trap was laid and two persons who came there in a Honda

City were apprehended, later identified to be Mubarik and Irfan. The car was also impounded.

According to police, these gangs have a unique modus operandi. For the purpose of cattle theft and other crimes, they used modified Tata 407 trucks.

Heavy iron girder/bumpers were fitted in the vehicle to crush/damage the intercepting vehicles especially police vehicles and in turn escape from the scene.
