Two more swine flu deaths in city, toll goes up to 16

Taking the death toll to 16, two more swine flu deaths were reported in the city on Wednesday. While Apollo hospital reported the death of a 53-year-old woman, Madan Malviya Hospital reported the death of a 45-year-old male patient.

Swine flu (H1N1) continues to spread in the national capital with 34 cases reported on Wednesday, taking the number of positive cases to 1,171. An official from the Health Department of Delhi said, 'Among the positive cases around 30 cases were self detected’.

He added that the government is doing its best in providing treatment to people who are down with H1N1 virus in government hospitals.

Delhi Government has designated 22 hospitals, including five private ones, for swine flu treatment. These hospitals have been directed to have isolation wards for extremely critical patients.

Doctors from the city hospital said that 'Swine flu can be treated with Tamiflu medicines. Preventable vaccines are also available in the market but it is not advised for general use as per the recent guidelines issued by the health ministry.
