With the arrest of two accused persons, the Crime Branch has busted a gang of cheats involved in a fake MBBS admission racket. One of the accused has done MA (Philosophy) while the other has done MBA after completing his B Tech. They used to lure parents seeking admissions to reputed medical colleges like Christian Medical College, Ludhiana and Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, for their wards.
The accused persons have been identified as Naresh Kumar (30) and Shubham Jindal (28). Kumar is the kingpin of the racket and was previously arrested in 28 cases of admission frauds. During investigation it was learnt that they also convinced the parents that they can arrange the surrendered MBBS seats for their wards in reputed medical colleges in lieu of heavy premiums. The matter came to light when a complaint was received by the police that a victim — Ripan Wadhwa — has been cheated of Rs 51 lakh in the name of securing MBBS seat for his son in Christain Medial College and Maulana Azad Medical College by providing fake admission documents. During a raid in Dwarka, Kumar was apprehended and later his co-accused Jindal was arrested from Karol Bagh.
“Accused persons lure the parents seeking admissions to medical colleges for their wards. They impress upon the parents about their good liaison with the management of reputed medical colleges in Delhi and nearby states. In some cases, the accused also provided fake confirmation letters and fee challans of medical colleges to the aspirants/parents after obtaining large amounts,” said Ravindra Yadav, Joint CP (Crime Branch). Kumar who was addressed as ‘Doctor’ by his associates is a graduate from Ramjas College and did MA (Philosophy) at Hindu College. During his student life in the Delhi University, he got well acquainted with a number of students and University staff. In order to earn easy money and to live a plush life, he got involved in admission racket wherein, he secured admissions for several students in DU through fake documents. In this admission racket, he was arrested in 28 cases that are pending trial. After release on bail, Naresh ventured in a new racket of MBBS admissions as the bid for each MBBS seat goes upto Rs 50-60 lakh.
Jindal is a B Tech (IT) from Kurukshetra University and MBA (IT) from Global School of Management Science, Saket. He then worked at Delhi Institute of Technology & Management, Haryana, as the Marketing Head of the college and also as the counselor of the college. There, he interacted with a number of parents/students seeking admissions and also to counselors of other institutes. Later, he came in contact with the admission syndicate and started to arrange prospective victims/medical aspirants for the syndicate. Both have been sent on a 1-day police remand.
