Two held for duping people on pretext of jobs

The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police has arrested two persons for cheating people on the pretext of providing them permanent jobs in several government departments.

The police said the accused were identified as Arjun (28) and Suresh Nagar (31). Documents with an imprint of the national emblem and other impressions of offices of the Government of India, two laptops, one printer/scanner, 17 mobile phones and SIM cards used for tele-calling, ink stamps and other incriminating material were recovered from their possession, police said.

One Rupendra Rambaran Pal lodged a complaint, alleging that he had received an appointment letter, in which it was mentioned that he was selected for the job of ‘Gupt Sipahi’ under the India Welfare Association and was asked to deposit a security amount in an account number provided by the accused. Pal deposited Rs 65,000. The letter also carried a phone number and email IDs. However, Pal, later, found that he was cheated.

A team was constituted and the police learnt that Suresh and Arjun were duping people on the pretext of government jobs.

The police laid a trap and Arjun was arrested from Pandav Nagar area in Delhi, while Suresh Nagar was apprehended from Green Field area in Faridabad. They told the police that they were cheating people by promising government jobs for over the past one year.

“They would open accounts in different banks on fake names and advertise for jobs in various departments of the Government of India across the country and gave a contact number. Job-seekers used to call on the number and accused persons used to lure them by promising jobs. They gave them an account number, asking them to deposit security money in the account number.”

“Once the amount was deposited, they would send fake appointment letters to the applicants and would ask to deposit more money till the victims got suspicious. They would then ignore their calls,” a police official said.
