Two held for drug smuggling

Two persons involved in trafficking of opium have been arrested by the Crime Branch, Delhi. Thirty kilos of fine quality opium, estimated to be worth Rs 30 lakh, have been seized.

A team of officers of the crime branch has apprehended two persons involved in trafficking of drugs and has recovered 30 kg of fine quality opium.

‘Information was received, that two persons Mukesh and Rakesh, who are residents of MP and Rajasthan, are indulging in sale and supply of opium in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana after procuring the same from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh,’ said a police official.

The police also got the information that the accused would be meeting under a foot bridge opposite Sunder Apartment, near Ring road  in Paschim Vihar, Delhi, to deliver a huge consignment of opium to a contact between 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm.

A trap was laid and the two accused, Mukesh and Rakesh, were apprehended with 15 kg of fine quality opium.

On further investigation, it was found that, Mukesh, 34, started selling opium some time ago. This time he came along with one Rakesh Pattedar, 30, to supply the opium after obtaining it from Dhanraj of Mandsaur (MP), but was caught red handed.

‘A case of NDPS Act has been registered at PS crime branch,’ said a police official.
