Two former cops convicted for clearing false TA bills

A CBI special judge at Lucknow has convicted two former police officials for submitting and passing false TA (travel allowance) bills. The court has awarded rigorous imprisonment to the officials and slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of them.
Nawab Singh, former assistant sub-inspector, and <g data-gr-id="24">Chotte</g> Singh, former constable, both of Uttar Pradesh police were found guilty of submitting and passing 52 false TA bills amounting to Rs 1,80,408.30 (approximately) between April 1993 and March 1994.
Nawab Singh had checked, processed and passed the bills submitted by <g data-gr-id="22">Chotte</g> Singh to the controlling officer. He has been sentenced to three years’ rigorous <g data-gr-id="17">imprisonment,</g> while <g data-gr-id="23">Chotte</g> Singh has been awarded five years’ rigorous imprisonment.
After investigation, a charge-sheet under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998, was filed against <g data-gr-id="20">Chotte</g> Singh, Nawab Singh and a former MP in the court of the CBI special judge, Lucknow. The MP died during <g data-gr-id="18">trial</g>. <g data-gr-id="21">Chotte</g> Singh worked as a gunner for him.
