Two die, 2 others injured in fire mishap at path lab

Two people died and two were severely injured after a major fire incident at an X-ray and pathology laboratory at Tilak Nagar area in west Delhi, during the wee hours on Thursday.

The deceased, Vipin (29) and Robin (32) were lab assistants. ‘All four victims were rushed by police to a nearby hospital, but Vipin and Robin could not survive, said a police official. Vipin and Robin died of suffocation and there was no burn injury on their bodies,’ he added.

‘The fire emanated at the ground floor from either the X-ray machine, CT scan machine or computers in the laboratory, informed police. A call to fire department was made at 3.30 am. Seven fire trucks were deployed and the fire was finally brought under control at 4.55 am’, said a fire department official. However, police has a different version to the story. ‘It seems that the fire broke out due to a short circuit in air-conditioner fitted in the basement lab. The impact of the fire was such that smoke filled the ground floor which led to the duo’s death’, said a police officer.

‘Investigations are going on and if found guilty of negligence the culprits will be brought to book,’ the police official added.
