Two Delhi Police constables sustained injuries after being attacked here on Tuesday night while questioning a man wanted in several criminal cases.
Constables Ravi Kumar, 35, and Vijay Kumar, 41, were attacked around 10 p.m. on Tuesday in central Delhi’s Chandni Mahal area by the man along with three of his family members, police said.
The culprit was arrested while all his family members involved in the crime managed to flee. The constables were on patrolling duty when they saw Nadeem wandering at a secluded place. While he was being questioned by the cops, Nadeem made a phone call to his family members who came and started beating up the cops.
‘The accused also tore the uniforms of the constables. Despite the sudden attack, one of the constables managed to call Police Control Room (PCR) for help and held on to Nadeem. After noticing a PCR van, his family members escaped,’ said a senior police official.
‘Nadeem, who is involved in several criminal cases, was arrested from the spot while a hunt is on for his brother Siraj, 42, mother Bano, 56, and his another brother involved in the attack on the constables,’ he added.
Both the constables were taken to a nearby private hospital from where they were discharged later after first aid.
