Displaying the humane side of the Delhi police, two police constables saved the life of a 12-year-old boy who was drowning in a 20-feet deep canal in Kalyanpuri area of east Delhi on Tuesday afternoon.
The two cops, who themselves did not know to swim, displayed immense courage and presence of mind while rescuing the child, identified as Funtoosh. The incident happened at around 12:45 pm when three police personnel, constable (driver) Pawan Tomar, constable (gunman) Teja Singh Nagar and head constable (gunman) Surendra were deployed with a PCR van near a canal in block 18 of Kalyanpuri were informed about a child, who has slipped into the canal. ‘As soon as a passerby told them about the boy, the PCR van rushed to the spot after taking a rope from a nearby shop. On reaching the canal, they saw the child yelling for help. Not fearing for his own life, Tomar tied a rope around his body and gave the other end to Nagar and jumped into the canal,’ said a police official.
