Two policeman of the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) were killed and two injured on Wednesday in an intense gun battle in a forested stretch in the state’s southern tip in Sukma district, police said. The gun fight broke out Wednesday morning when a contingent of the CAF was on a combing operation in the insurgency-hit forests. It was fired upon by a small squad of heavily armed rebels.
Police officials said the insurgents opened fire under Kistaram police station. Constable Parshu Markam was killed on the spot while three of his colleagues, including a platoon commander, were injured. They were rushed to Maharani hospital at Jagdalpur, headquarters of the restive Bastar region.
