Two cops crushed to death in two separate accidents

Two policemen were killed in separate road accidents on late Sunday evening in New Delhi district. One of the accused has been arrested and later released on bail, while the errant driver of another incident is yet to be identified.

The first accident took place outside the residence of Union Home minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday at around 8 pm when he was going for his duty. In the mid-way, a speeding cab hit his motorcycle and he lost balance and fell on the road. The driver stopped his vehicle and the victim, identified as Constable Arvind Kumar, posted in security unit, was rushed to the RML Hospital.

According to police, Kumar was critical when he was admitted to the hospital. On late Sunday night, he succumbed to his injuries. The body was handed over to his family after the post-mortem examination was conducted. A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered and the cab driver, identified as Sandeep was arrested and later released on bail.

During investigation it was learnt that on Sunday evening, Kumar went to police lines from where he got to know that his duty has been changed and he was supposed to be deployed at the Haryana Bhawan. Soon after knowing his deployment details, he took out his motorcycle and was riding towards Haryana Bhawan, but in the mid-way the accident took place.

In the second incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector, identified as Manoj Kumar was hit by a speeding car near Ashoka Hotel. Kumar was on his bike at the time of the accident. At around 8 pm, a speeding car hit his bike from behind and he was crushed to death. The errant driver is yet to be identified. Police are scanning the CCTV footage to establish the identity of the accused. A case under relevant sections has been registered at Chanakyapuri police station.
