Two constables attacked in west Delhi, five arrested

In yet another attack on police personnel in the national capital, two Delhi Police constables were attacked by a group of men, who were confronted for allegedly drinking and gambling in a park in Uttam Nagar area of west Delhi on Sunday night.
The two constables, identified as Mandeep (29) and Shailendra (39) were attacked with stones and sticks by the accused around 8 pm near the Nawada Housing Complex.
One of them managed to inform the police station after which five persons including a juvenile were apprehended.
The constables, who suffered injuries on their heads and faces, were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where they were administered treatment and discharged.
The accused have been identified as Chandar (38), Suresh (30), Krishna (34) and Naresh (36) and a juvenile. ‘A case under section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of his duties), 307 (attempt to murder) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) has been registered at Uttam Nagar police station and investigations are on,’ said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh.
In another incident, a constable who was patrolling along with traffic officials was pushed out of a moving car in Seemapuri area in northeast Delhi last night. The constable had tried to challan the driver and had sat in the vehicle to stop him from running away. The accused was later arrested and booked under various sections of the IPC.
There have been three such incidents in the last ten days, where four police men including an Assistant Commissioner of Police were attacked. On 13 October, a constable was gunned down in Vijay Vihar area of outer Delhi. On 11 October, three alleged criminals had opened fire on two Delhi Police constables in busy Connaught Place area while ACP Amit Singh, posted with the Special Cell was assaulted by three persons on Thursday.
