Police have arrested two of the four accused for robbing an assistant manager after allegedly ‘kidnapping’ him in a Maruti van in South-East Delhi.
The accused have been identified as Kamal, 50, and Sameer Goyal, 22.
The incident took place on 8 October when Sriram, the victim, was returning home. He took a bus from his office that dropped him at Sarai Kale Khan bus terminal, where he was waiting for another bus to go to Rohini. Meanwhile, a Maruti van with four passengers pulled over next to him. The driver offered Sriram a ride to Rohini.
According to Sriram, midway, the three passengers who were sitting inside the van at the back seat started to beat him. They snatched the laptop bag that he was carrying, which had Rs 6,000 in cash, debit card, credit card, MP3 player and a data card. Also, alleged Sriram, they made him remove the gold ring that he was wearing as well as the moblie phone along with the wallet that had Rs 1,000.
‘After robbing and beating me, they dumped me in an isolated area near Kashmiri Gate. I borrowed a mobile from a passerby to make a PCR call. The cops reached the place and took me to Fortis hospital for medical aid,’ Sriram added.
A senior police official said, ‘On the basis of the statement from Sriram, a case has been registered against the four unidentified persons. On Tuesday, two persons have been apprehended by us. We have traced the Maruti van used for the crime.’
