Two arrested for stealing from shop

A former employee of sanitary ware shop in Hauz Qazi area and his associate -- a scrap dealer-- have been arrested for allegedly stealing sanitary items worth lakhs of rupees from the shop.

21-year-old Chetan was arrested after the shop owner Amit Kediya identified him on a close circuit television footage, police said today.

Kediya had filed a complaint on Sunday that when he reached his shop on Saturday he found the shutter open and a number of sanitary items were missing.

During investigations, police came to know that market association had installed CCTV cameras covering the street.

"The CCTV footages of these cameras were viewed to identify the burglars. On checking of a camera installed at a neighbouring shop, Kediya identified a man who was going on a rickshaw with gunny bag as his servant Chetan who had left the job few weeks back," said Aslam Khan, ACP, Central district.

Following this, police raided Chetan's house and recovered some stolen goods.

During interrogation, Chetan said he used to work at Kediya's shop but he was sacked without being paid over a tussle between owner and him over the issue of salary.

Keeping a grudge in his mind, he made a duplicate key of the locks of the shop and committed the theft along with his associates Anil and Sonu.

After stealing the goods, he sold some of the sanitary wares to Shaifuddin, a scrap dealer at Ajmeri Gate. On his disclosure, Shaifuddin was also arrested and remaining items were recovered from his shop, the senior police official said.
