Twelve students fall sick after consuming mid-day meal

Twelve students from a government school were admitted to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital on Thursday afternoon, after complaints of stomach ache arose from the consumption of their mid-day meal, according to government sources.  The students, aged between seven and 14, were from Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalya in Patparganj. One of the students from the ninth grade, as per policy, should not have been given a mid day meal. The mid day meal is only served to students from primary and middle grades only.

‘Some of the students complained of stomach ache at around 1.15 pm after having Rajma and Puri. As a precautionary move, we immediately rushed them to the hospital’, said a staff member of the school. Most students are said to be out of danger and have been discharged. It is believed that something must have fallen into the food at school. ‘The same service provider had supplied the meal to other schools in the same area. No complaints were received from them. All the schools were served the same meal’, read the official statement. The mid day meal is served to these schools by an NGO - Dr Bheem Rao Ambedkar Dalit Utthan Evom Shiksha Samiti. No official inquiry has been ordered so far.
