Abdul Karim Tunda, who was arrested on Friday by Delhi Police from the India-Nepal border, was in direct touch with Hamid Gul, a retired lieutenant general of Pakistan Army and former spymaster who was head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, a police official said on Monday.
‘Tunda revealed that he had met Gul in 1995 for the first time and was in regular contact with him till his arrest. Gul was director general of the ISI during 1987-89’, police official said.
‘Besides Gul, Tunda was also in touch with other ISI’s officials who were instructing him to operate in India as he was well aware of Indian territories, the official said, adding ‘Lashkar-e-Taiba is one of the tanzeems (armed organisations) functioning under the ISI.’
The Delhi Police interrogators said that Tunda met Gul as well as underworld don Dawood Ibrahim for more than six times after 2000. The official said that Tunda had met Hafiz Saeed, chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, but he didn’t give exact details about his meetings with Saeed.
However, Hamid Gul has denied his any link with Tunda. ‘I don’t know him. The man is a phony. Don’t waste time on him. I have no idea why he is naming me and giving my connection with Dawood Ibrahim... It’s totally wrong,’ Gul told a private new channel.
Police said, Tunda, an expert in bomb formation, was also involved in circulation of fake currency in India.
‘He made frequent visits to Bangladesh and Nepal for indoctrinating the Muslim youth for jehad. He also visited many middle east countries,’ the police official said.
