Tug-of-war between Centre, MCDs to blame for civic mess, says AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday alleged that in-fighting between central government departments and MCDs is responsible for civic mess in Delhi. The BJP ruled three Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs) have collapsed financially and functionally. It is a matter of grave concern that the BJP-ruled central government, which also controls the three MCDs of Delhi, is pushing the national Capital towards a civic chaos, AAP alleged.

The central government controlled Delhi Development Corporation (DDA) owes Rs 1550 crore to the three MCDs, which is one of the major reasons for the financial corruption in the MCDs.

“There are clear indications that the strike by the sanitation workers is being provoked by the BJP. This conspiracy was hatched following BJP’s unsuccessful attempts to spread false information about Delhi government not having released adequate funds to the MCDs, but facts have exposed the BJP,” said the press release.

The MCDs have an outstanding loan of Rs 5908 crore, which they owe to the Delhi government, and the AAP government has already made it clear that it will not insist on either repayment or even part repayment of this loan for the current financial year, given the precarious MCD condition.

The BJP which has been ruling the MCDs since the last eight years has turned it into the most corrupt department of the world alleged the press release. According to the rankings for Swachh Bharat released by the Union Urban Development Ministry, MCD has been ranked at 398 out of 476.
