Truck hits tempo; four killed, three injured

Four persons were killed while three others were critically injured when a truck hit a tempo on the Noida-Greater Noida Express highway on Monday night. Police said that the occupants of the tempo met with the accident when they were on their way and the speeding truck hit them from behind. The victims were admitted to a private hospital where four were declared brought dead while three were admitted to the ICU. Police have registered a case but are yet to arrest the errant truck driver who fled from the spot.

According to the reports, the accident took place on the Greater Noida-Noida carriageway when eight persons in tempo were on their way from Bulandshar to Noida. Their vehicle got punctured near Sector 135 following which they stationed it on the roadside. As they were busy in repairing the puncture, a speeding truck hit the tempo. The impact of the accident was so intense that the rear portion of the vehicle was damaged completely and the occupants suffered multiple fractures. 

The dead persons were identified as Mitthu, Shayoraj Singh, Suresh and Devdutt while the injured persons were identified as Vikash, Namdhari and Harendra. The passers-by informed the police and the victims were taken to Yatharth Hospital. The accident also led to traffic jams and the police took nearly an hour to normalise traffic. “We have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The families of the victims have been informed and an operation has been launched to nab the accused truck driver,” said a police official.
