A 55-year-old businessman, his wife and their daughter were murdered at their residence in the Rohini area of outer Delhi on Friday morning. The police said that their house was not ransacked, but a mobile phone and a loptop were missing from the scene of crime. The police have not ruled out the possibility of a known person committing the crime.
Y P S Chauhan, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district and ran a godown for chemicals in Shahbad Daulatpur in outer Delhi, his 50-year-old wife Rekha and the 22-year-old daughter Karishma, lived in a two-storey house in B Block of Sector 17 in Rohini. '[Y P S] Chauhan was found lying with head injuries on the ground floor of the building, while Rekha and Karishma were found strangled on the first floor of the house,' a senior police officer said.
'A case of murder has been registered and investigations have been started by the police. The entry into the house was friendly and it was not ransacked, which suggests that someone known to the family may be involved,' said B S Jaiswal, the deputy commissioner of police (outer district).
The police have ruled out robbery as a motive behind the incident, after initial probe found that only Chauhan’s mobile phone and Karishma’s laptop were missing from the house. Sources say that Chauhan’s elder daughters, Hema and Jolly, and the daughter-in-law Renu are being questioned by the police to know if he was involved in any property dispute.
Hema stays in a rented accommodation in Sector 28 Rohini, while Jolly lives in Faridabad with her in-laws. Besides, Renu lives with her parents after the death of Chauhan's son in a road accident.
The deaths came to light when the daughter of a local priest went to the house at around 7 am and found the main gate open. According to locals, Rekha, a religious woman, was scheduled to catch a tourist bus to Vaishno Devi with the local priest Udaychand Jha and nine other women of the neighbourhood on Friday morning.
The police official said that the killer tried to remove evidence, as the rooms were cleaned to remove bloodstains.
