About four lakh party activists and supporters are supposed to attend the annual rally. This year, the party would also celebrate its victory in the last Lok Sabha poll where the Trinamool Congress won 34 seats. ‘We want to renew our pledge towards the martyrs of 21 July and also announce the party’s future programmes’, Sisir Adhikari told Millennium Post.
The Trinamool Congress convened a meeting at Trinamool Bhavan a few days ago where MLAs belonging to Howrah, Nadia, North and South 24-Parganas were present to discuss the observation of the Martyr’s Day on 21 July. It is known that party supporters from outside the state especially from Assam, Manipur and Tripura will attend the party programme at Esplanade on that day.
The party did not celebrate its victory or take out any victory rally after the Lok Sabha poll results were out. So on 21 July, workers from different districts especially from the Hills, North Bengal and Jangalmahal would throng at Esplanade. Some Congress leaders are also expected to join the Trinamool Congress and will be present at the rally.
The party is going to book special trains to bring its supporters from North Bengal and Junglemahal. Accommodation and food for those who will arrive a day before the occasion was also discussed.
Councillors and MLAs from Kolkata and Howrah will attend the party supporters who are coming from North Bengal, Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum and West Midnapore at Howrah and Sealdah stations and would accommodate them at the Netaji Indoor stadium and other private lodges in Burrabazar areas.
The party has instructed the district presidents and MLAs to bring the party activists and supporters from neighbouring districts on the day of the programme.
