Police, on Thursday morning, arrested the absconding e-rickshaw driver who hit a woman, leading to the death of her toddler son at Trilokpuri area in east Delhi. The accused was found to be a minor and had allegedly raped a six-year-old girl around a year ago.
‘The accused is 17 years old and it was his uncle who had borrowed the e-rickshaw on rent and given it to him to earn a living,’ said a senior police official. He further said the accused had already been jailed once for the rape of a six-year-old girl around a year ago. He was currently out on bail. He lives in the Trilokpuri area.
The e-rickshaw was tracked by Wednesday late-evening, but the accused was on the run. ‘He was identified by Wednesday night, but police had not revealed his identity for fiar investigation’, a police officer said.
The victim, named Dev Singh, was the son of Pinky Singh, the woman who was hit by the e-rickshaw. She worked as a house-maid in several households in east Delhi, said sources.
On Wednesday, the accused hit a woman who was carrying her child in her lap by his e-rickshaw and fled the spot. On being hit, the two-year-old child slipped from hands and fell into a pan of boiling hot syrup outside a sweet shop in Trilokpuri.
He was taken out of the container after a long struggle, but by the time he was rushed to the hospital, he had already succumbed to his burn injuries.
