Transport dept makes police verification easier

More than  a month after the 16 December gang rape of a paramedical student, Delhi government’s Transport department has taken important decisions to streamline the procedure for registration of Public Service Vehicles and issuance of public service bagdes.

After a high-level meeting, Delhi Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami on Wednesday briefed media persons.

He said in order to streamline the process and lessen burden on police authorities, city government has identified certain conditions for police verification. Further, certain categories have also been exempted from police verification. Goswami said  any owner’s valid passport for that particular address where the vehicle is going to be registered  would be considered as  police verification.

Submission of a valid certificate not older than six months issued by police authorities not below the rank of ACP, certifying the residential address of the owner along with the online SCRB report, would also be treated as police verified.

For registration of additional public service vehicle in the same name,  the documents will not be required again for a period of a year from the date of issuance of such a certificate but the applicant has to submit self-attested photocopies at each occasion.

The Transport department has exempted from police verification  certain categories, including  Central government, State government, PSUs, autonomous Bodies of Centre and State governments, local bodies, recognised educational institutions, authorised motor driving training schools, cluster bus operators approved by the Transport department, hotels/tourists transporters approved by Ministry of Tourism/city government/DTTDC, approved/registered hospitals and nursing homes and approved radio taxi/rent a cab operators.
