Noida Authority has announced the setting up of a Transport Regularity Authority (TRA) to ensure improved means of connectivity in the city. Though the city is connected by the Metro, but last mile connectivity was a major concern for the authority. It will regulate both private and public transport including auto rickshaws to solve the problem across the city.
Authortity CEO, Rama Raman said that the TRA will be formed for implementing a composite mobility plan in the region. He said, ‘We have been working for improving the transport system and traffic on roads. We have decided to approach centre and state governments for more buses so we could ensure last mile connectivity. We have also been planning to widen the roads and deploy more traffic personnel to improve traffic system of the region.’
He also informed that all auto rickshaws drivers will be directed to install meters in their vehicles and those auto drivers who harass the passengers will be penalised.
Nearly 7000 auto rickshaws, 500 shared tempos, 5000 cycle rickshaws, 276 UP roadways and 300 DTC buses ply in Noida and Greater Noida. However, there are still many sectors like 23, 35, 44, 47, 48, 64, 71, 82 and 93 among others, which do not have any facility of public transport.
