Traffic park to be set-up on Noida-Greater Noida expressway to raise awareness

Deeply concerned with the alarming rise in road accidents on Noida-Greater Noida and Yamuna expressways, New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida) is planning to establish a traffic park in the satellite town to raise awareness about traffic rules.

The project is proposed on an eight acre plot in Sector 108 along Noida-Greater Noida expressway. ‘We have asked some companies to make a presentation on the project. Presentations are likely to be made next week,’ said a senior officer of the authority closely associated with the project. As per the concept paper of the park, it will have an auditorium with a capacity for 200 seats, open theatre and a cafeteria besides models of Noida-Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressways.

‘Noida and Greater Noida have turned into an educational hub and the youth are falling prey to road accidents as they drive on their whims and fancies. The park will create a certain level of awareness and will be helpful in controlling road accidents,’ said Preetinder Singh, senior superintendent of police in Noida. He added that bikers and drivers follow traffic rules in Delhi but as soon as they cross the border they deliberately flout the traffic rules such as putting on their helmet, jumping red lights among others.

‘We prosecute the offenders but don’t have equally strong traffic police force to intensify the prosecution,’ Singh said. The park will have separate halls for general traffic rules and expressway traffic rules apart from guidelines for using flyovers and grade separators.

According to authorities in Noida, the traffic park will also prove to be an educational tourist centre for school students and will be helpful in instilling traffic rules among them at a young age. ‘We have world-class Yamuna expressway but residents have their old habits of flouting traffic rules,’ said Sandip Chandra, chief engineer of traffic department.
