Traffic diversions likely to facilitate Id prayers today

On the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr on Friday, devotees will offer Namaz at Idgah near Rajeev Chowk NH-8, which may result in traffic congestion between 7 am to 12 noon. 'If case of traffic congestion, diversions will be made to ensure smooth movement of traffic and to avoid any inconvenience to any one,' said a traffic official.

'Vehicles moving from Delhi towards Jaipur will be diverted from Exit No.10 towards Bakhtawar Chowk and may then go right  to wards Subhash Chowk to reach Hero Honda. Heavy vehicles moving from Jaipur towards Delhi will be diverted from Bilaspur Chowk to Pataudi. Light vehicles will be diverted from Hero Honda Chowk to Subhash Chowk and may then go left  towards Rajiv Chowk,' said a senior traffic official.

But while traffic officials  were busy planning traffic movement for Friday, rains on Thursday and the resultant waterlogging, created traffic snarls in the capital  for the third consecutive day.
Traffic movement was slowed in areas like the ITO, Laxmi Nagar, Kashmere Gate, South Extension, Aashram Chowk, Moolchand Underpass, Nehru Place and Dhaula Kuan. Traffic snarls were also reported from areas such as Moti Bagh, Badarpur, Saket, Ganesh Chowk and on the flyover near AIIMS.

Vehicular movement was slow near India Gate, Rafi Marg, Kalkaji, Jangpura, Mehrauli, Mahipalpur and Janakpuri. But rains brought relief from the heat, with the minimum temperature on Thursday recorded at 25.8 degree Celsius, a degree below normal. The minimum temperature on Wednesday had been 25.3 degree Celcius.
