Traffic cops crackdown on diesel trucks older than 15 yrs

The Delhi traffic Police has started a crackdown on diesel vehicles that are 15-years-old. Following orders from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Transport Department, GNCT of Delhi has provided a list of 1.9 lakh such diesel motor vehicles to Delhi Traffic Police that are more than 15-years-old and have been de-registered by them as per the directions issued by the National Green Tribunal in their orders.
“The Delhi Traffic Police shall be prosecuting and impounding such 15-years-old de-registered diesel motor vehicles under Section 39/192 Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Section 207 Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. All such motor vehicles, towed away by the cranes deployed by Delhi Traffic Police violating the directions of National Green Tribunal shall also be liable for penal action under Section 122/177 Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 along with towing charges,” said A K Ojha, Joint CP Traffic.
The Delhi Traffic police has already swung into action and the cops are keeping a hawk eye on diesel vehicles older than 15 years. Many vehicles have been impounded. Recently, the pollution levels rose terribly forcing even schools to shut down. This drive is said to provide some relief to Delhi which has recently witnessed its worst pollution crises.
