Tourists on Goa beaches to be under CCTV surveillance

Tourists visiting Goa will have a CCTV camera monitoring their movements once they venture on to major beaches in the state, a senior Tourism Department official said here on Friday. The tourism department which is in the process of reviewing the entire security arrangement on the beaches have decided to continue posting India Reserve Battallion (IRB) on the beaches, which will patrol the areas.

The department officials in association with the State Police have decided to ensure that major beaches, which are crowded with the tourists, are regularly under surveillance.

‘The CCTV cameras would be installed at these beaches,’ Pamela Mascarehnas, deputy director, state tourism department, told PTI on Friday.

She said that a flying squad has also been formed to supervise the security apparatus on the beaches. ‘Domestic tourists visit the state all throughout the year, during season and off-season. The IRB personnel who are deployed on all beaches of Goa have been sensitised to take strict action against garbage dumping, drinking on beaches, cooking food on the roadside, littering, security of tourists especially women and prohibiting hawkers and beggars on beaches,’ she said.
