Chhattisgarh minister for tourism Ajay Chandrakar on Thursday said expansion of tourism will not only curb Maoist menace but also generate employment for tribal youths in Bastar and Sarguja region.
Chandrakar was addressing a conference of ministers in New Delhi. With 44 per cent forest cover, state has immense scope for eco-tourism. He demanded a special category status like those of Jammu & Kashmir and north-eastern states for Chhattisgarh.
Seeking Centre’s support in development of Sirpur as world heritage site, Chandrakar said the Buddhist tourism spot at Sirpur, needs to be developed as Buddhist tourism circuit.
