Top cop assures African delegation of safety

In light of the attacks on African nationals in the Capital, Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma on Monday held a meeting with a delegation of African community living in Delhi at the Police Headquarters.

Joint Commissioner of Police /South-Eastern Range has been appointed as Nodal Officer to look after the safety and security of foreign nationals in the city. In cases of emergency, representative of African Nationals have been requested to call 100 or 8750871111, a dedicated helpline for foreigners.

Besides this, Delhi Police Commissioner assured the African community of their safety during their stay in Delhi. Those who were present at the meeting were Special Commissioner of Police/ Law and Order (South) and (North), Joint Commissioner of Police of South-western Range and South-eastern Range and Deputy Commissioners of Police of South and South-east district. The meeting was organised to reassure African nationals of prompt redressal of their grievances and also to apprise them of various steps undertaken by Delhi Police for ensuring their safety and security in the city.

According to the police, a delegation of African community were briefed about the various meetings taken by police all over Delhi with the members of African community, especially after the murder of a 23-year-old Congolese national at Vasant Kunj earlier this month. In the interaction, senior police officers requested the community to contact local police whenever they feel uncomfortable or see any act of crime getting perpetrated on them or if they have any apprehension.
