To maintain a balance between government and party, top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders led by newly elected party president Amit Shah had a meeting with the RSS leaders at Nitin Gadkari’s residence on Thursday.
Primarily the discussion revolves around how to maintain a better coordination between the government and the Sangh, on who will be next party national general secretary and upcoming assembly elections strategies. It is expected that Shah will soon announce the name of the national general secretaries after consultation with PM Narendra Modi.
The marathon meeting is considered to be important because this is first such meet where BJP stalwarts and Sangh leaders were present after Shah took charge of the party. Sources said. Apart from next party national general secretary, there are several others key organisational posts, which need to be filled as their incumbents have been made ministers in the Modi’s government.
‘In today’s meeting names of some party leaders were discussed for the vacant posts and the final decision will be taken by August,’ BJP sources said.
Former party chief and current cabinet minister Rajnath Singh were among BJP leaders present at the meet. On behalf of Sangh, almost entire top RSS leadership including Bhaiyyaji Joshi (second to Mohan Bhagwat in the Sangh hierarchy), Suresh Soni and Dattatreya Hosabale were present. RSS chief was not there in the meeting.
‘Coordination with the RSS and restructuring in the party was mainly discussed. Also, our strategy on upcoming assembly elections in some states (Maharashtra and Haryana) was also discussed,’ BJP sources said.
