Toll policy to change, says Gadkari

The acche din for people of the country have started coming in installments. The new 
relief from Modi government on the card is for commuters using toll plazas across country as the NDA government led by prime minister Narendra Modi is set to change road toll collection policy. 

Minister for road transport and highways and shipping Nitin Gadkari told Lok Sabha that changes have been proposed to toll collection policy in a way that the toll collection will be stopped after the cost of the project is recovered. 

Gadkari further added that collection will only be made after 100 per cent completion of the project instead of 75 per cent as was being done now.

In reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Gadkari said that toll collection was less than expected due to slow down of economy.

The minister said that he has held discussions with financial institutions as they do not want to fund road projects as there are huge non performing assests in the sector. 

He pointed out that the prime minister is also expected to discuss the issue with financial institutions to restore their confidence to fund road projects.

Meanwhile, minister of state for road transport and highways and shipping Krishanpal Gurjar informed the House that the Gurgaon-Kotputli-Jaipur highway project of NH-8 is only an upgradation of the existing four-lane highway to six lanes on the existing alignment and is likely to be completed by 30 June, 2015.
