Police said that the operator was attacked for demanding toll by the occupants of the car, identified as Keshav and Ashwat, who claimed to be senior officials with the Steel Ministry. Both were hauled up by the security guards and handed over to the police. Later, it was revealed that both had faked their identity and installed beacon to scare people.
According to the toll operator, the incident was reported at around 1 am on Noida-Delhi stretch when the occupants of a Swift Dzire car, fitted with red beacon, were using the carriageway. When their vehicle reached the toll booth, they both tried to force open the barrier denying to pay the toll.
After the operator, Arvind, refused to open the barrier, they both came out of the vehicle and started thrashing him up. They forcibly entered the cabin, dragged Arvind outside and started beating him up.
Security guards deployed at the site tried to intervene. They initially tried to stop the fight and later called the police. As the cops sought the identity of the accused, they attempted to escape.
However, they were arrested. “As it’s a serious issue, we have lodged a complaint against both the persons at Sector 20 police station and have provided CCTV footages also,” said Anwar Abbasi, spokesperson of the DND flyway.
