Toddler run over by car, accused principal arrested

It was learnt that he was the principal of St. Mary’s Public School. On Thursday, at around 10 am, the child, identified as Varun, was playing outside his house in Nand Nagri E-Block. The toddler, who was playing outside his home, was crushed to death by the car being driven by the accused Jai Prakash.
According to the police, the accused saw Varun standing at the backside of his car while he was reversing. Despite that, he reversed the car and rammed over him.
Locals nabbed the principal and rushed Varun to the nearby hospital. Meanwhile, he was referred to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The eye-witness called the police. The locals handed over the principal to the police and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
‘At the time of the incident, I was parking my scooter outside my house. I saw a Maruti Esteem car coming towards Varun while it was being reversed and I also saw the driver crush him under the vehicle,’ said Kamal, who is a class XI student of Rajkiya Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya in Gulabi Bagh locality. According to the statement of an eye-witness, a case against the principal has been registered at Nand Nagri police station. A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered against him.
Umesh, father of the deceased, runs a grocery shop in the area. Varun was his eldest child. The principal runs a school in the locality where classes are held up to VIIIth standard are held.
In a similar incident, a 14-month-old toddler was killed on 14 September when a car crushed her in the parking lot in east Delhi’s Karawal Nagar area.
Manisha, the victim, was playing in the parking area when she was crushed to death. The car was being parked by one of the neighbours who did not notice that the toddler was playing near his car and she was crushed to death.
