As narrated by a senior police official, on Wednesday afternoon, when the victim’s mother went to the play-school to fetch her home, the child pointed towards an attendant of the play-school and alleged that he was assaulting her regularly.
Also for the past few days, the minor girl was also complaining of some irritation in her urinary tract. Soon, the mother of the victim rushed to the play-school authorities and alleged the man — towards whom the girl had pointed — of molesting her daughter in the school premises.
‘After a while, a large crowd gathered outside the play-school and people started thrashing the accused. Meanwhile, the police reached the spot after receiving a call from the school authorities,’ said Vikramjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer). He further added: ‘We had to arrest the accused, identified as Amit (35), immediately, otherwise the crowd would have thrashed him to death.’
The victim was sent for a medical examination, which reflected that she was suffering from a minor urinary infection, said Vikramjit. He further added that the complaint of the victim cannot be ignored and this case has to be investigated thoroughly.
The accused was booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
On Thursday, another protest was held outside the play-school and people demanded immediate action against the school authorities. ‘But that cannot be done unless negligence or any other fault on part of the school authorities is established,’ DCP Singh added.
However, the police are interrogating teachers, administrative staff and other children in the play-school to see if such incidents have happened there in the past. CCTV footages have also been availed from the school premises for further investigations.
