ONGC Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Sudhir Vasudeva has said that there is hardly any room for vacillation when it came to adoption of IOR/ EOR schemes as ‘even a percentage increase in global recovery translates to an additional 77 billion barrels of crude’.
Addressing a panel discussion on on issues pertaining to the delivery challenges of IOR & EOR technologies in the current hydrocarbon landscape, Vasudeva, who is also chairperson of SPE India Council and director at-large of SPE International, said that such highly encouraging numbers provide the rationale behind the pursuit of such new and path-breaking technology in the hydrocarbon sector.
He summed up the urgency of the situation, when he said, ‘New oil needs to be discovered through new ideas but that does not mean old oil can be recovered through old means and ideas.’
The Technical sessions were also attended by an eminent group of panelists from DGH, Cairn India, Shell and Gaffney (UK).
The discussion was held during the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Applied Technology Workshop at New Delhi with focus on the subject of IOR/ EOR technologies being applied globally to enhance recoveries from not just mature fields but also new projects.
This is the first ever edition of SPE’s prestigious technology workshop sessions to be held in the country.
