In a first, Shah will preside over meeting of Delhi BJP office bearers on either 18 or 19 November, the date and schedule of which would be fixed on Sunday.
‘BJP has lost four consecutive elections only due to infighting. The senior leadership has taken a serious note of the issue. The national leadership is of the view that nothing could be left to chance this time and the meeting of party’s national president would be mainly focused on neutralising infighting among various ‘gangs’ of Delhi unit who work to malign one another,’ said a senior party leader of Delhi BJP.
As the party has decided not to project any chief ministerial candidate in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, the elections would be a direct contest between AAP’s chief ministerial candidate Arvind Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the direction of Shah, the Delhi unit has already directed all its seven MPs from the city including Union minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan to attend district level and local meetings. Vardhan, who has generally not been available for party workers since being appointed Union Health Minister had attended district level — Awahan Rallies, in both the political districts — Chandni Chowk and Keshavpuram of his parliamentary constituency.
‘The party has planned over 2,700 street meetings in next 45 days which would be addressed by party MPs from various states to connect with the voters hailing from those states,’ said Vijay Kapoor, spokesperson of Delhi BJP.
He further added that over 200 MPs of various states and backgrounds would be roped in to campaign in the city. ‘We are planning street meeting as less as 10 people in the locality for an MP and each and every vote is precious for us,’ he added. He further informed that the party may take a call on candidates’ list in the next 15 days.
