After auto-rickshaw drivers, who have rallied behind the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to fight corruption, now a jeweller too has pledged his allegiance to the party. Shiv Kumar Bansal along with his wife Bimla Devi has been serving as a cook at the AAP party office in Connaught Place for the past four-five months.
‘Since the party office was set up here in Connaught Place, my wife and I have been serving here and preparing food for party workers. Now after the election date has been announced, campaigning is gaining momentum and we have to prepare food for around 100-125 people on an average daily. We serve them breakfast, lunch and dinner here everyday,’ Bansal said.
Talking about his daily routine, Bansal said that he leaves home along with his wife around 5 am every day and gets back late in the night. ‘I spend about Rs 200 on petrol each day,’ he added.
Bansal said that his shop in the Budh Vihar area has been shut ever since he took to cooking for AAP workers. ‘I am frustrated with the corruption prevalent in the country. Arvind ji and his party are the only ray of hope for weeding out corruption from India,’ Bansal, a father of four, said.
‘My wife and I along with four other party workers make sabzi, roti, raita, tea, rice and pulses everyday. Fortunately, there is no shortage of ration because people come and donate ration and fruits according to their capacity,’ Bansal informed.
On being asked the reaction he got from his near and dear ones after deciding to cook for AAP workers, Bansal said: ‘My neighbours initially laughed at me, but after seeing my dedication for the cause, they changed their perception.’
Bimla too has been very supportive of her husband in the entire process. ‘It was a conscious decision taken by the two of us. We are running our family with the help of our savings. Once AAP manages to win the election we will go back to our jewellery business,’ she said.
