Time for Capital’s auto owners to update address

The Delhi transport department has asked the owners of 3,057 auto-rickshaws and taxis, whose addresses could not be verified by Delhi Police, to furnish their correct residential proof. The department has also issued the list of registration certificates of these vehicles.

‘We have asked the owners of 3,057 taxis and autos to furnish correct addresses before the department by 15 October. If they fail to comply, actions would be initiated including cancellation of their registration,’ said a senior department official. ‘Police have recently sent us the list of such owners whose addresses could not be verified following which we have come up with this direction,’ he added.

According to the department, in some cases, traffic police sent traffic challans to the owner’s addresses, but these could not be delivered. Officials believe this could be because at the time of delivering challans, the owners were unavailable.

Efforts are being made to make necessary corrections for records, the official added.
