Delhi police claimed to have solved the murder case of an elderly schoolteacher in Timarpur, on Thursday. They have also arrested three persons in this regard. According to the police, robbery was the motive behind the murder.
‘The accused have been identified as Rahul Singh alias Ricky, 22, Rahul Gautam,19, and Nadeem Khan, 24. They were arrested for murdering 62-year-old Madhu Mehra, a resident of Teachers Colony in Timarpur area,’ said Sindhu Pillai, deputy commissioner of police [North].
The main conspirator, Ricky, hatched the plan to rob Madhu, who had been staying alone for several years in his neighbourhood. ‘Ricky had taken Rs 3 lakh from his father, who is a government employee, to start a business, but he failed to sustain it and suffered a huge financial loss,’ said Pillai.
Meanwhile, Ricky got to know that Madhu was going to retire in November this year and there was a possibility of her having a huge amount of money at her home. He then roped in the other accused to hatch the conspiracy.
He approached Rahul and Nadeem of Ghaziabad and told them the money would be distributed among themselves. The accused then started looking for an opportunity to get inside Mehra’s house.
On the day of the incident, the three knocked at the door of the victim, and, on the pretext of distributing prasad, got her to open the door at 10.30 am. Once they got inside, they overpowered her, and when she tried to raise an alarm, they gagged her, which led to her death.
They later ransacked the house and took away Rs 6,500 in cash, a gold chain Mehra was wearing and other valuables from the house.
During investigation, activities of Ricky, who was living in the house just opposite the house of the deceased, appeared suspicious. His movements during the last few days were verified and he was subjected to sustained interrogation, during which he broke down, said Pillai.
Rahul Gautam and Nadeem were apprehended at his instance on Wednesday. A gold chain was recovered from Rahul Prasad, Rs 5,500 in cash, 10 national saving certificates of Rs 10,000 each and a piece of gold bangle was recovered from Nadeem and 10 national saving certificates of Rs 10,000 each were recovered from Rahul Gautam.
